For those new to Yoruba culture: Shango is one of its most revered deities, the god of thunder, lightning, fire and justice. He was once a powerful king whose voice, according to legend, sounded like thunder.
In my creative interpretation, I sought to capture not just his divine power, but also his indomitable spirit and charisma. I was inspired by the image of a champion who faced the world with unwavering confidence and strength. To embody this, I deliberately gave Shango’s features a resemblance to the greatest of them all — Muhammad Ali.
